The death has taken place of

An tAth Séamus O'Dubhthaigh RIP

(Fr Jimmy Duffy)

a former curate in the parish of Inishmagrath.

Fr Jimmy died in the Galway Clinic on Tuesday, 15th January, after a brief illness.


He was born in Kilmainhamwood, Co Meath, on 17th April 1925.


He received his secondary education in St Patrick’s College, Cavan.

He was ordained in Maynooth on 18th June 1950.


His first appointment was to the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.


In 1953 he was appointed curate in Drumkeerin,
where he played a very active role in the life of the parish.

Even now, over 50 years after he left the parish,
he is still very fondly remembered by all those who knew him.

In 1961 he was transferred to Ballyjamesduff where he worked for 20 years.


In 1981 he was appointed Parish Priest of Ballinaglera.


Nine years later, in 1990, he succeeded Canon Terence McManus
as Parish Priest of Oughteragh (Ballinamore) in 1990.


After retirement in 2000 he served as curate in Ballinamore
until last summer when he he finally retired from public ministry.
