Susan McGinley RIP

Susan McGinley RIP

The death has taken place of

Susan McGinley

Aras Bhride and  formerly Tawneylea
Drumkeeran

Susan died in Sligo General Hospital on
Wednesday, 16
th January.
She had been a resident of St Brigid’s Hostel for the last 19 years.

Susan was born in Tawneylea in 1922,
one of a family of ten children born to Frank and Mary McGinley.
While most of the family emigrated,
Susan lived in Tawneylea over 70 years.
There she delighted in visiting her neighbours and, in turn,
she loved to see them visiting her own house.
She also enjoyed listening to the music sessions.

And she loved attending the bazaars and winning prizes at them.

Susan’s lifestyle was very plain, very simple.
Susan was a lady of great gentleness.
She had a lovely sense of humour and jollity about her.
She was a very generous lady who had a lovely care-free approach to life.

Above all, she had a deep faith in God and in his love and care for her.

She didn’t worry about life.  She trusted that God would look after her at all times.

And because of all these aspects to her personality,
she was a thoroughly delightful person to know and to befriend.

In 1994 she moved into Drumkeeran
and became a resident in St Brigid’s Hostel.
There she soon won the love and the affection
of her fellow residents and of the staff.
In her own quiet and unique way,
she brightened up their lives with her jollity and her joviality.
And they, in turn, through their affection and care for her,
also brightened up her life.
She was very happy in St Brigids and later in Aras Bhride.

Susan was pre-deceased by her sisters Bernie, Lizzie and Annie
and by her brothers John Joe, Harry and Frank.

She is survived by her sisters Florence, Jeannie and Margie
all of whom live in the USA.

Many people attended Susan’s removal on Thursday evening
and the funeral Mass on Friday morning.

Susan was laid to rest in the family plot
in Drumkeeran Cemetery.
