College Demolition

The End of an Era

Demolition Work at St Patrick’s College, Cavan.

Over the years many young men from the Drumkeeran area would have attended secondary school as boarding students in St Patrick’s College, Cavan.

They would have been very familiar with the ‘New Wing’, which consisted of the Basements, the Study Hall, the Science Labs, the Classrooms and the Dormitories.
It was built in the early 1940’s at a cost of £44,772.

Now,looking through the photographs on this page, they will hardly believe their eyes.
That same ‘New Wing’, which so dominated their lives in the College, has been demolished.
In its place a new St Patrick’s College has been built
on what used to be called the ‘Inter Pitch’ and ‘The Half’.

The new College opened in September 2012 and almost immediately
the demolition work commenced on the ‘New Wing’.

The ‘Old Wing’, the original St Patrick’s College,
is now the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre.

The following photographs, taken by Fr Donal Kilduff, show the demolition work at various stages.
