James Gilhooly RIP

The death has taken place of James Gilhooly, formerly of Lisacoghill, Drumkeeran.

He died on Wednesday, 2nd January, in Lough Erril Nursing Home, Mohill.

He was 93 years of age.

James was born in Lisacoghill on 30th May 1919.
He was the son of Thomas and Mary Anne Gilhooly.
A few days later, on 5th June, he was baptised by Fr Laurence Corr.
His god-parents were Patrick Sheridan and Mary Waters.

Until he was about 45 years old James worked on the family farm in Lisacoghill.
He was reputed to be a quiet man and a hard worker.

Making a living out of a small farm would not have been easy in those years.
Eventually, in 1964, James decided to leave and to settle in Dublin.
There, he continued his rather quiet way of life.
Over the years he lost contact with Drumkeeran, with Lisacoghill
and with all those who lived there.

Six years ago he returned to Co Leitrim
and became a resident in Lough Erril Nursing Home.
It was there that he died in the early hours of Wednesday, 2nd January.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated in Drumkeeran Church
on Friday, 4th January.

After the Mass James was laid to rest in Kilbride Cemetery.
