The school community of Creevelea NS came together on  Friday, 19
th October, to its thanks Mrs Chris Mahon who was a teacher in the school for 12 years.

The afternoon’s ceremonies began with Mrs Mary Dolan, Principal, welcoming all those in attendance,
including parents, pupils, former members of staff, past-pupils,
members of the Board of Management and other guests.

Fr Alwill, Chairperson of the Board of Management, led a service of thanksgiving and blessing.

In his words, Fr Alwill spoke of how generously and how successfully Chris, in her teaching,
had used the talents in art and drama that God had given her.

A number of the children then read out their particular special memories
of Mrs Mahon’s classes in science, in art, in gardening and in drama.

Fr Alwill concluded the service by quoting from St Matthew’s Gospel;
“Well done, good and faithful servant”
and by giving a blessing to Chris and to all present.

Mrs Rena Fallon                                                                       Mrs Blaithín Lawson

Mrs Rena Fallon, who was principal when Mrs Mahon started teaching in the school, spoke of how enthusiastically Chris would take on ventures such as the annual nativity plays, writing the script herself and providing most of the props.  She praised Chris’ commitment in preparing the children for First Communion and she thanked her for her loyal friendship over the years.

Mrs Blaithín Lawson, speaking on behalf of the parents, spoke of how the children would come home bubbling with enthusiasm about what they had done in Mrs Mahon’s class earlier that day.
She too spoke of the marvellous skills Chris brought to the classroom, especially in art and, on behalf of the parents, she expressed her gratitude and made a presentation to Mrs Mahon.

on behalf of all the pupils in the school.

The formal proceedings came to a close with the children playing some traditional music for Mrs Mahon.
