Survey of Drumkeeran Cemetery

On Thursday, 30th August, a group of surveyors from GSS Ltd carried out a survey of Drumkeeran Cemetery.

The main purpose of this survey is to produce an up-to-date and accurate chart or map of the cemetery showing all burial plots and establishing the number and positions of vacant plots.

The surveyors carried out the survey using the latest in satellite technology in order to pin point the exact positions and levels of all the plots in the cemetery and around the church.
They also photographed every headstone in the cemetery.

Furthermore, GSS Ltd will provide the parish with its Graveyard Management System,
a system which will allow us to keep an accurate record of all burial plots
and to regularly update the basic database and map.

The map will be available on a special website.
The map will be interactive in so far as a visitor to the web site can click on an individual plot
and will be able to retrieve the details of all who are interred in that plot
as well as a photograph of the headstone.

Visitors to the web site will also be able to search by name, by age, by year of death etc.

We hope to have the map available on-line before the end of the year.
