This is Your Life

Andrew Redican

As can be seen from the above photo

Andrew Redican had quite a surprise awaiting him on Sunday evening, June 1.

He was the guest of honour at a special This is Your Life in the Community Centre

marking the huge contribution he has made to community life in Drumkeeran since 1967.

Andrew thought that he was coming to the Community Centre to present a sketch.

Instead, Seamus Gallagher, presented him with the famous red book.

The event was organised as part of Josephine White’s campaign for Mayor of Drumkeeran.

Among the guests were Andrew’s wife, Irene, their daughter Andrea
and sons Finian and Fergus.

Other members of the family who were unable to attend sent video messages,
wishing Andy an enjoyable and memorable evening.

Other guests included classmates from primary and secondary school, and from university.

Born in 1942, Andy attended St Mel’s College, Longford, where he did the Leaving Cert in 1960.

Having studied for a while in Galway, he went to London.

He returned to Ireland in 1964 and studied for teaching in Cork.

In 1967 he started work in Drumkeeran Vocational School as a teacher of English and Geography.

Among the school staff who were present were Stephanie Gibbons, who spoke of Andy’s talents as a teacher,
Mona Travers, Sara Bouchier and Eamon Curran.

Irene recalled how she first met Andy in the early 1960’s.

They were married in 1971.

Members of the family recounted some of the more humorous events in the Redican family.

Various guests spoke of Andy’s great contribution to Drumkeeran GAA,
to football in the Vocation School,
to drama, to Drumkeeran Tidy Towns
and to Drumkeeran Local Development Projects.

Representing the GAA were Jimmy McPadden, John McPartlan, John Travers and Charlie Flynn (seated).

Drumkeeran Drama Group was represented by Thomas McHugh, Michael Harrison, Pat Duignan and Joe Walpole.

Rose Keane spoke fondly of how Andy helped the ICA.

Mary Bohan thanked Andy for the huge role he has played in Drumkeeran Tidy Towns since 1970.

Patrick Joseph McTiernan highlighted the work done by Andy for local development in Drumkeeran.

Josephine White thanked all the guests for attending.
She thanked Andrew’s family for all the help they afforded her as she planned the evening.
She also thanked Seamus Gallagher for presenting.
Finally, she thanked the large numbers who came along to support the event.

Josephine is one of three candidates running for Mayor of Drumkeeran.
The other candidates are Paddy McMorrow and Seamus Gallagher.

“Andrew Redican, This is Your Life.”
