Margaret Healy RIP

The death has taken place of

Margaret Healy

Balloughey, Kingscourt and formerly, Largy, Drumkeeran.

Margaret died in Fairlawns Nursing Home, Bailieboro, Co Cavan,
on Tuesday, 27 January.

She was 96 years of age.

Margaret was born in 1918, one of a family of nine children of Margaret and Tom O’Reilly,
Balloughey, Kingscourt, Co Cavan.  She had four sisters and four sbrothers.

She first came to Drumkeeran as a housekeeper for Fr Edward Lynch
who was appointed as a curate in Newbridge in 1947.
Fr Lynch also served in Carrigallen and Ballintemple
before he returned to Drumkeeran as parish priest in 1969.
Margaret served as his housekeeper in all of those parishes.

She remained his housekeeper until she married Eamon Healy in 1972.
She then settled in Largy, where she very quickly befriended the neighbours
and became a very popular member of the local community.
She was a very caring person and a great neighbour to everybody.
She also served for a number of years as sacristan in Tarmon Church.

She, in her earlier days, had trained as a seamstress in Bailieboro
and she was a very talented and skilful dressmaker.

She was also an excellent cook.
Margaret was an extremely competent and capable lady
in whatever she undertook.

In October 1989 her husband Eamon died.
After that Margaret spent more and more of her time in Kingscourt,
caring for and looking after her brothers.
She eventually decided to make the full move back home to Balloughey
where she continued to look after her brotthers until she herself was admitted
to Fairlawns Nursing Home about 7 years ago.

She was a lady of a strong and deep personal faith.
The Mass, the Rosary, the Novena prayer books were all part of her daily life.
Pilgrimages to Knock were a regular occurrence every year.

Margaret is survived by he sister Mary
and by a large number of neices and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, Margaret’s Funeral Mass
was celebrated in Tarmon Church,
on Thursday, 29 January.

After the Mass she was laid to rest
in Curraghs Cemetery.
