The Two Forms of the Marriage Ceremony
The Sacrament of Marriage may be celebrated in either of two ways.
1. Within the Nuptial Mass Most Marriage Ceremonies take place within a Nuptial Mass. The Ceremony will begin with the Opening Prayers of the Mass. Then we will have the readings followed by the homily. After the homily we have the Marriage Ceremony itself, when the couples make their promises and the rings are blessed and exchanged. The Ceremony then continues with Mass and the couple will have an opportunity to receive Holy Communion. The MRF will be signed at the end of the Mass.
2. A Marriage Ceremony without Mass A couple may decided to Celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage without the Mass. In this case, the ceremony will begin with the Opening Prayers. Then we will have the readings, followed by the homily. After the homily we have the Marriage Ceremony, when the couples make their promises and the rings are blessed and exchanged. This will be followed by the Concluding Prayer and the Blessing. The MRF will be signed after the final blessing.
