Required Documents for Marriage

Before the wedding you will have to meet with your priest
to complete the Pre-Nuptial Enquiry Form.

In order to complete the Pre-Nuptial Enquiry Form,
the following documents will be required:

1. Baptismal Certificate
You can obtain the Baptismal Certificate from the parish where you were baptised.  The Certificate should be issued recently i.e. no more than six months previously.

2. Proof of Confirmation
In many cases proof of Confirmation is recorded on the Baptismal Certificate.
If not, a Confirmation Certificate should be obtained from the parish where you were Confirmed.

3. Proof of Freedom to Marry
There are three ways in which you can establish your freedom to marry

a) Letters of Freedom:  You obtain a Letter of Freedom from every parish where you have lived for six months or more since you were 18 years of age.

b) Witness:  You may ask a parent or someone who has known you all your life to write a letter stating their relationship to you and declaring that, to the best of their knowledge, you have never been married religiously or civilly in any jurisdiction.

c) Affidavit: You can swear an affidavit before a Commissioner of Oaths attesting that you have never been married religiously or civilly in any jurisdiction.

4. Marriage Preparation Certificate
This Certificate will be issued to you when you attend the Pre-Marriage Course.

5. Other Documentation (where applicable)
In certain situations, such as mixed marriages etc, additional documentation will be required.  In such cases your priest will give you further information on the extra documentation that may be required.
