Kilmore Priest Ordained
Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise


On Sunday, 6th October Fr Francis Duffy, a priest of our diocese,
was ordained bishop of our neighbouring diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise.

The ordaining prelate was Cardinal Brady,
assisted by Archbishop Browne, the Papal Nuncio
and by Bishop Colm O’Reilly, retired bishop of Ardagh.

The ordination ceremony was held in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral in Athlone.

Concelebrating with the Cardinal and the Papal Nuncio
was a large number of bishops from all over Ireland,
as well as the priests of Adagh and the priests of Kilmore
and the priests from Fr Francis’ ordination class.


Bishop Duffy was born in Port, near Bawnboy, Co Cavan, in 1958.

He was educated in St Patrick’s College, Cavan,
and in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth,
and was ordained to the priesthood in 1982.

He taught in St Patrick’s College, Cavan,
before being appointed Principal of St Felim’s College, Ballinamore.

From 2008 to 2012 he served as Chancellor of our diocese.

Most recently he as been priest-in-residence in Clifferna,
in the parish of Laragh.
