Drumkeeran Ladies are Champions

The victory cavalcade on Main Street

Drumkeeran ladies win Leitrim Junior A Championship

There was great rejoicing on the streets of Drumkeeran on Saturday evening, 5th October,
when Drumkeeran ladies team paraded through the town
with the Championship cup they had won earlier in the afternoon.

Michelle McNama, holding the cup, with Shauna Clancy and Áine Fallon

They had defeated St Joseph’s in a thrilling encounter in Carrick-on-Shannon.

In the first half everything seemed to be going very well for the Drumkeeran ladies
as they notched up a 3 - 6 to 1 - 2 lead at the break.

The second half, however, proved to be a different story.
It was now St Joseph’s who were doing all the scoring
and they closed the gap to just one point as full-time approached.

In injury time the Drumkeeran ladies showed their true grit and determination.
Annemarie Gallagher scored a goal and two points
to widen the gap to six points when the final whistle blew.

Final score:  Drumkeeran 4 - 9, St Joseph’s 2 - 9.

Some of the team’s younger supporters

We congratulate the all the ladies on an excellent performance.

We also congratulate their coaches, P J Clancy and Padraig Murphy.

A hearty “Well Done” to all involved.
